New Partner – Eastern Michigan University Esports

YPSILANTI — Eastern Michigan University’s Esports program has announced a new partnership with Citadel Gaming to provide students with hands-on industry experience, expand internship opportunities, and strengthen connections between collegiate and professional esports.

The collaboration will integrate professional-level experience directly into EMU Esports operations. Through the partnership, Citadel Gaming will work alongside EMU Esports student staff to review and enhance existing workflows, collaborate on creative projects, and provide access to entry-level professional work.

“This partnership is a game-changer for our students and our program,” said Zach Lewis, coordinator of Esports at Eastern. “We’re creating a direct pipeline between collegiate esports and the professional industry, giving our students real-world experience that strengthens their portfolios and prepares them for careers in gaming, media, and beyond.”

Approximately 10–15 EMU students are expected to participate annually in professional-level creative work through the partnership. Opportunities will include videography, graphic design, 3D animation, editing, and other digital media disciplines. Much of this work will be integrated into existing paid EMU Esports student positions, while additional project-based opportunities may be available to the broader student body.

In addition to student development, Citadel Gaming will support the planning, marketing, and execution of select esports events hosted on EMU’s campus. The organization will also participate in community-facing programming, including tournaments, watch parties, and special appearances by professional players and staff, helping to grow Michigan’s local esports ecosystem.

“At Citadel, our goal is to give EMU real opportunities to compete and gain experience working alongside our staff with content and operations,” said Charlie Harrison, director of operations at Citadel Gaming. “We see this as a partnership where both sides can build something meaningful, and we’re looking forward to what we can accomplish together.”

“The partnership reflects a grassroots, community-focused approach to collaboration,” said Lewis. “Rather than a traditional vendor relationship, the initiative is designed to create mutual value by aligning resources, talent, and opportunities between the university and the professional esports organization.”
